Progress and Setbacks

The last few weeks have been full of ups and downs, but what can we expect from January? I started a new job as a gardening assistant, which I have been absolutely loving despite the weather. Still, whilst clearing up at my favourite farmhouse garden, I stepped onto some uneven ground, and my famously weak ankles let me down. Have you ever heard of a Weber A fracture? Neither had I until a delightful trip to A&E. Apparently, it's a common break caused by the ankle turning outwards with force, and it means I'm stuck in a boot for 4 weeks with a 6-12 week recovery - no gardening for me!

Of course, this has meant that my preparations for my cut flower beds have been paused, and the lack of progress on that front is frustrating. Every time I look out the window, I can't help but see how much I still need to do. But there are just two weeks left of the boot and 'rest' before I can start doing my usual things again, and you best believe the first thing I will do will involve removing the damn ground elder!
On the plus side, I did manage to get some seeds sown before the accident, and they're starting to poke their beautiful little heads above the soil. So far, the sweet peas are racing ahead, followed by Antirrhinum, and then Delphinium, with Astrantia taking its time as it likes to do. Not being able to garden is made slightly more bearable by the presence of these little green shoots, and I'm grateful for them.
