So, you've found Florence Frances Flowers, you've navigated to our Blog page, and you're taking the time to read this - thank you. This is my first day. When I'm done typing this out, I'll be hitting 'publish' on the website and (hopefully) the ball will start rolling.
Who am I? I'm Amy, and this is a huge career switch for me. I have spent the last 10 years training and working in the world of Architecture, but there is a distinct lack of jobs out there, and after struggling to find work for several months, I found myself telling people, "If I didn't have to worry about money, I would have a pick-your-own flower field and do floristry". Suddenly, I asked myself, is that really how I want to go through life? Working just for the money (which, if you know about the Architecture world, isn't even that good), and dismissing the calling of my heart because it might be difficult.
After thinking about it some more and talking it through with friends and family, I decided that I needed to give it a go, and so here we are with Florence Frances Flowers.
I imagine you're wondering where the name comes from, given that I've introduced myself as Amy. We have my Grandmothers to thank for such beautiful middle names. My own middle name is Frances, after my maternal Grandmother, who taught me everything I know about floristry, and my paternal Grandmother, whose middle name was Florence.
I've always adored being in the garden, although growing edibles has never really been my thing. It's the beauty of flowers that holds my heart. To see their faces blooming in the sun and bringing colour and joy to the garden is a wonderful thing, and what's better than being able to bring that joy and beauty inside in a vase for the table, or create stunning arrangements that help elevate any event.
So, now is the time for me to get this thing started, and I hope that this all works out, because what better life could there be than spending every day with flowers?
